Anyone who’s visited my blog over the past few days has been greeted with a big, bold “404 Not Found” message. The equivalent of the blue screen of death for a blogger.
In case you’re wondering what happened, my site got hacked. I had a couple of days where it looked like I’d lost the whole kit and caboodle. Very exciting. Just not the kind of excitement I’m looking for.
I was relatively lucky, because I’d recently backed up. It still took me three days to piece everything back together. I only lost a few posts and/or their comments. Not the end of the world, for sure.
In a not always “all’s well that ends well” world, please benefit from my agida and use it as a cautionary tale. If you haven’t backed up your site recently, DO IT NOW. And if you aren’t on the latest version of your blog platform, UPGRADE NOW.
Over and out, and getting away from this #(&^&(@* computer for a while.
To the great cyber powers that be, bless and protect Karen’s site with all your might!!! And to the hackers out there, beware of brain snakes and other nasty things that can happen to you. Have a nice day now!
How do you back up your blog? I always write offline, although my older posts aren’t on this computer.

edj, it depends what blogging platform you use. If you’re using eBlogger, you can get instructions from Google (creators of eBlogger) here: http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2007/02/how-to-backup-blogger-blog.html. But I think these instructions are easier to follow: http://www.quickonlinetips.com/archives/2005/11/back-up-your-blogger-blog/
If you’re on WordPress, go to your Dashboard and under Tools you’ll find the Backup command.
If you have your own domain and are hosted through a web host company, they usually have a place where you can backup from the C-panel.
Ugh! I was worried. I wanted to do a thank you post on the award but couldn’t find you for the info! And thank you for using the word agida. Do you know I can’t find that word in any on-line dictionary? Now I know how to spell it!
