With all the anticipation of getting ready for my gardening season, I’ve been cooking up a storm testing new recipes. Cait is always very happy when this happens. As she was munching and I was preparing, we got to talking about favorite childhood tastes. For me, hands down, it’s my mother’s Orange Salad recipe. It’s so simple and refreshing.

Orange Salad Recipe
- Peel skin off several oranges, leaving a fair amount of pith (the white inner skin).
- Slice and cut into bite-size pieces
- Drizzle with a light oil of your choosing
- Sprinkle with sugar
- Chill for 1 hour
- Enjoy!
Do you have favorite childhood food?

Isn’t this an Italian thing? My grandmother used to make this. Great hot summer day pick-me-up.
My childhood fave was balogna. Now I gag on it.
I would have never thought to put oil together with oranges! I’ll have to give it a try.
My childhood favorite food was mashed potatoes. Yummm.
I just had this for the first time 3 weeks ago. We had a going-away party for a trooper who transfered to another station & one of the guys who cooks *a lot* brought this orange/olive oil/black pepper combo in with some home made fettucine alfredo. The contrast between the oranges and the pasta…was outstanding.

wait, that made it sound like the oranges were in the pasta…..the oranges were not IN the pasta, they were a side dish but I would eat some pasta then a piece of orange and it was scrumptious.
Mmm, that looks delicious. Now I’m hungry.

I could SO eat that plate of luscious oranges right now…..
This reminds me of my Mom’s favorite sandwiches when I was growing up… an orange & onion sandwich.
Sliced oranges, onions, mayo and bread.
