In web design, the debate rages over scrolling vs. clicking. As usual, I fall squarely in the middle. You’ll find that any longish post now has a “Continue reading →” link that, when clicked, expands the rest of the post in accordion fashion right within the post. You won’t need to  click to open a new page to read posts that interest you, nor will you need to get a cramp in your finger from lots of scrolling.

What’s your preference? Scrolling, or accordion expansion? Please weigh in and let me know if you prefer this over full posts.

For my blogger buds, if you like this feature and want it for your blog, the plugin is “Read More Right Here.

  1. At our blog we tend to use the “continue reading” thing (though some of us forget on occasion!). The reasoning is that if a subject doesn’t interest someone they can just scroll by it quickly. And if you’re looking for a specific post on the page it can be easier to find that way.

  2. I think the “Continue reading →” works better on the home page. It is easier for a reader to choose what to read (less scrolling). I do mainly a photo blog so don’t know if I would want it for that. I haven’t been blogging all at long and getting tabs on the top of my site was a big deal for me.

I use Blogger and and am not sure if they offer the “Continue reading →”. They probably do and if I ever wrote tons, I would probably use it. It makes things look more tidy.

So I guess my final answer is yes, and I like it.

  3. Thanks Michelle and Terri! I appreciate the feedback.

Terri, I should clarify that this is a WordPress plugin. But you could search for a similar plugin on Blogger.
