Do You Dress Up Your Animals for Halloween?

Dog Halloween Costumes
Archie and Olive

A dog-loving friend sent me this photo of her Halloweenie dogs.

I also get pictures of them in Christmas costumes. This friend doesn’t have 2-legged children, so her dogs fill some of that role. Any dog would be lucky to call her their dog mom. What she accomplishes with her rescue pups is truly amazing!

While I always get a giggle out of her photos, I’ve never thought about dressing up any of my dogs. So I’m curious–

Do you dress up any of your animals for Halloween?

Do you dress them to take photos to use on Christmas cards?

  1. My first Aussie seemed to enjoy wearing pink tank tops. She first wore one for calming at agility trials. When she was around 13 or 14 I started putting coats on her because she didn’t put out as much heat as she used to. Got her a pink coat when she was 15 :-) My second Aussie thinks coats and adornments are stupid. I’ve tried the Christmas tinsel wreath around her neck and even antlers, but her surly expression kind of ruins the holiday effect. The young one is 3 months old, so I don’t know what he’s going to think. Right now his main thought is “Is this edible?”

  2. Deb, we had a little Chihuahua for a short time when I was a kid–a friend was moving and couldn’t take it so we inherited it until another friend of ours fell in love and adopted her from us. (We already had several animals at the time, so letting this little girl go to someone who would adore her as her only pet made it seem selfish to keep her.) So, yes, I know about the necessity for sweaters for even brief winter walks!

  3. I’ve never dressed a pet for Halloween. I didn’t allow the kids to dress them either.

In fact the Chihuahua I currently live with is the first four-legged pet I’ve ever known to not be a holiday noise freak. However, she doesn’t really care for clothes but after two years of persistence has finally conceded that the slight indignity of a sweater when it’s cold is better than missing her favorite mailboxes.

  4. I just have a dress for Sophia and a tee-shirt for Niko. We go get pictures taken to support rescue charities. They only make it onto the web site but that is all.

      1. Thanks Karen, what is a retired art teacher to do, but to rescue dogs and cats (although, I actually had all of them before I retired)? Oh, and I guess take pictures of them!
